The more we move up the body the more spiritual the Chakra work becomes. The third eye Chakra or Ajna Chakra is the seat of judgement, emotional intelligence and wisdom. It is your "sixth sense" that regulates the five lower Chakras:
Root Chakra
Sacral Chakra
Solar Plexus Chakra
Heart Chakra
Throat Chakra
The Ajna Chakra is located in the mid-forehead, between the eyebrows and and governs your brain. When the energy is balanced we are creative, can think symbolically and literally and are not afraid to change our onions or viewpoints. This polarity is represented by the union of Siva (male energy) and Shakti (female energy). The Chakra is associated with an intuitive way of knowing.
When the Third Eye Chakra is open and balanced we feel inspired and creative. We are able to see well physically and intuitively. If this Chakra is healthy it is said to balance the lower Chakras so many yogis suggest to start Chakra work with the Third Eye Chakra.
When Ajna energy is deficient or excessive we tend to be indecisive, forgetful or jump to conclusions too quickly. We might be suffering from migraines or even mental confusion.
Signs for Ajna imbalance:
- You lack flexibility in thinking
- You constantly evaluate yourself
- You are too intellectual or detached from the world
- You have poor memory or tend to be foggy about details
- You fear new ideas and new experiences
Physical Signs
- headaches
- poor eyes sight or other problems with the eyes
- brain tumour or stroke in more extreme cases
- epileptic seizures
- nightmares, insomnia
How to work with the Ajna Chakra
As the Third Eye Chakra controls your vision of the world it can be very beneficial to practice inversions were we literally (and physically) change perspective. Working with Nadi Shodana (alternate nostril breathing) where we balance the right side and the left side of the body can also be very beneficial. Meditation with Hakini Mudra (all finger tips touching) helps to focus and balances the communication between the right and left side of the brain.
