What is SHINE?

SHINE is an online yoga and Pilates membership for adults with scoliosis who want to understand their body better, build strength and mobility, and feel more confident about how they move.

You may already have exercises from a physiotherapist or Schroth therapist, follow scoliosis videos online, or simply know that staying active and strong is important.

But having more exercises isn’t always the answer.

SHINE brings scoliosis-aware yoga, Pilates and education together in one place, so you can learn how to adapt movement to your body and develop a practice that works for you.

 Inside SHINE, you can:
  • Build strength, mobility and body awareness through scoliosis-aware yoga and Pilates
  • Understand more about your scoliosis and how it can influence the way you move
  • Learn how to adapt exercises rather than relying on one set of rules
  • Choose practices to suit your body, your energy and the time you have available
  • Keep learning and developing your movement practice over time

This isn’t about fixing your scoliosis or finding one perfect set of exercises.

It’s about understanding your body and finding a way of moving that helps you stay strong, active and confident as you get older.

Why SHINE?

Having scoliosis can make exercise feel more complicated than it needs to be.

You may wonder whether you’re doing the right exercises, whether a particular movement is suitable for your scoliosis, or whether something you’re doing could make things worse. And if you’ve noticed changes in your body or posture over time, it’s understandable to want to know what you can do to support yourself.

SHINE gives you a trusted place to learn and practise with a teacher who understands scoliosis.

The yoga and Pilates practices are tailored to scoliosis, with options and adaptations to help you find ways of moving that work for your body.

You’ll learn more about which movements may be helpful, which may need adapting, and how to make more informed choices about exercise with scoliosis.

Over time, the aim is to help you understand your body better, build strength and mobility, and feel more confident knowing what works for you.

Inside SHINE, you can:

  • Practise yoga and Pilates with scoliosis in mind
  • Learn how to adapt exercises to work better for your body
  • Build strength and mobility through varied, whole-body movement
  • Understand more about your scoliosis and how it may influence the way you move
  • Explore movement with guidance, rather than constantly worrying whether you’re doing the wrong thing

The aim isn’t to make you more cautious about movement.

It’s to give you the knowledge and confidence to move more freely and keep doing the things that matter to you.

Why I created SHINE

I’ve lived with scoliosis since childhood, and my own experience has shaped the way I teach today.

In this short video, I share a little of my story, what led me to specialise in yoga and Pilates for scoliosis, and why I believe looking after our bodies for the long term is about more than finding the “right” exercises.

What can change when you stay with SHINE?

Many members come to SHINE feeling unsure about what they should be doing, worried about getting exercises wrong, or simply wanting to feel stronger and more comfortable in their body.

Over time, members tell me they:

  • Understand their scoliosis and their body better
  • Feel more confident knowing which movements work for them and how to adapt when needed
  • Feel stronger and more capable in everyday life
  • Experience less stiffness or discomfort, or feel better able to manage it when it comes up
  • Worry less about doing the “wrong” thing when they exercise
  • Feel more comfortable exploring yoga, Pilates and other forms of movement
  • Enjoy moving their body more and feel encouraged to keep developing their practice
  • Feel supported by knowing they have trusted scoliosis-specific guidance to come back to

Everyone’s body and scoliosis are different, so there isn’t one outcome that SHINE promises for everyone.

What I want you to gain is the knowledge, strength and confidence to make movement a positive part of looking after your body for the long term.

I'm currently half way through my 3rd year of membership and am very happy to say I'm feeling the best I've felt in this time. I have pain under complete control. Recently had a long haul flight return to Canada 14 plus hours each way in economy and I was perfectly fine. Love the membership and all that I've learnt so far with Christine has been life changing.

Olga, 58

I started with Christine‘s weekly classes in November 2023. After 14 years of physical therapy, my therapist noticed a real improvement in the last few months. My muscles are not as tight as they used to be. So for me, your class has been a real game changer.

Choose the level of support that feels right for you

Both SHINE memberships give you scoliosis-specific yoga and Pilates practices and trusted guidance to help you understand your body and move with more confidence.

The difference is mainly in how you want to practise and how much ongoing guidance you want.

SHINE Lite - flexible, self-directed practice

SHINE Lite is a good fit if you want trusted yoga and Pilates for scoliosis that you can explore in your own time.

You may be learning more about what is helpful for your scoliosis, want guidance on adapting movement, or simply prefer choosing your own practices and fitting them around your schedule.

Inside SHINE Lite you get:

  • The Foundations programme, giving you a clear place to begin and helping you understand the principles behind the way we practise
  • Full library of scoliosis-specific yoga and Pilates practices, from short sessions to full classes
  • Curve-specific practices and guidance
  • Guided meditations and relaxation
  • Selected past workshop recordings
  • Access to the private SHINE community

Choose SHINE Lite if you want the freedom to guide your own practice, with trusted scoliosis-specific resources there whenever you need them.

Please note: SHINE Lite does not include the weekly live classes or their recordings, live workshops or a personal welcome call.

SHINE Plus - an ongoing, teacher-led practice

SHINE Plus is for you if you want more ongoing guidance and a regular yoga and Pilates practice that continues to develop over time.

Each week there are fresh scoliosis-specific yoga and Pilates classes, with different themes, exercises and challenges to help you build strength, mobility and confidence without doing the same few exercises again and again.

You can join the classes live when it works for you, where I can see you practise, offer adaptations and answer questions.

But you don’t have to attend live to benefit from SHINE Plus.

The classes are recorded, so you can take part in the ongoing programme at a time that works for you and still benefit from the same teaching, variety and guidance.

SHINE Plus includes everything in SHINE Lite, plus:

  • Weekly live Yoga for Scoliosis class
  • Weekly live scoliosis-friendly Pilates class
  • Access to each live class recording for 8 weeks
  • Live specialist workshops, Back Chats and replays
  • A 30-minute personal welcome call with Christine, so she can learn a little about you, your scoliosis and what you are hoping to get from SHINE
  • Ongoing opportunities to ask questions and learn through the live classes and wider SHINE community

Choose SHINE Plus if you want an ongoing practice guided by a teacher who understands scoliosis — whether you join us live, practise with the recordings, or use a mixture of both.

*Live classes take place during term time. Pre-recorded practices are available during school holidays.

I cannot participate "live" in the chats and classes because of the time difference but I still feel I'm part of a supportive scoliosis community.

testimonials from current members

Christine’s classes and videos have been an invaluable help to me in dealing with the chronic discomfort of scoliosis, learning about my curvature and applying the knowledge to my practice of yoga and activities in general.

Roz, 67

I have thoroughly enjoyed all the sessions with Christine and I learned so much about yoga and my curves. Christine was my first yoga teacher when I first found out about my scoliosis. She guided me with one to one session which I can clearly remember. Since then I have been doing yoga and learning each time something new about my body. Christine is highly knowledgeable about yoga and her specifics on correcting posture and Pilates.

Shelina, 60

I have done a lot of "trying to fix" my s-curve in my usual way of doing too much and working too hard. I have done yoga for 40 years and taught for decades, not always in ways that have been helpful. I have loved and benefitted from Christine, who she is and what and how she offers her wisdom and kindness.

Sue, 75

More than a set of scoliosis exercises

When you first start looking for help with scoliosis, it’s natural to focus on finding the “right” exercises.

But looking after your body for the long term is about more than repeating the same few movements.

Inside SHINE, you’ll explore varied yoga and Pilates practices tailored to scoliosis, with a focus on strength, mobility, balance, body awareness and relaxation.

Some sessions will feel familiar. Others will introduce new movements or challenge you in different ways.

The important thing is that you can keep moving, learning and building confidence — while knowing that scoliosis is understood and considered throughout the practice.

Movement can support your body and be something you enjoy.

Christine Jaureguiberry, yoga and Pilates teacher specialising in scoliosis

Christine Jaureguiberry
Yoga & Pilates for Scoliosis Teacher

About Me

I’m Christine Jaureguiberry, a yoga and Pilates teacher specialising in working with adults with scoliosis.

I was diagnosed with a left lumbar scoliosis as a teenager, and for many years I looked for ways to manage the back ache and tension I was experiencing. Yoga became an important part of helping me feel stronger, more confident and more connected to my body.

As I learned more about scoliosis, I realised that I didn’t need to stop moving or spend my life trying to “fix” my spine. I needed to understand my body better and learn how to adapt movement in a way that worked for me.

That experience led me to specialise in teaching yoga and Pilates for scoliosis.

I’m a certified Yoga for Scoliosis teacher and APPI Pilates teacher, with additional training in scoliosis and spinal conditions. I’ve been teaching since 2015 and have worked with people with scoliosis from around the world.

My approach is practical and supportive: helping you understand your body, build strength and confidence, and find ways of moving that you can continue for the long term.

FAQ

Can I join SHINE if I have had spinal fusion surgery?

Yes. Many SHINE practices can be adapted for people who have had spinal fusion surgery.

In the classes, we often prioritise strengthening in a neutral spine position, rather than repeatedly moving into large ranges of spinal flexion, extension or rotation.

If a movement may not be suitable for someone with a spinal fusion, or needs to be adapted, I give clear cues and alternative options so you can work in a way that respects the movement available in your body.

The aim is not to force movement through fused areas, but to help you build strength, mobility and confidence around the movement you do have.

If you have had recent surgery, have specific medical restrictions or are unsure what is appropriate for you, please check with your healthcare professional before starting.

If you join SHINE Plus, we can also talk about your fusion and any concerns you have during your welcome call.

I’m new to yoga or Pilates. Is SHINE suitable for beginners?

Yes. You don’t need previous yoga or Pilates experience to join SHINE.

The Foundations programme, which is included in both SHINE Lite and SHINE Plus, gives you a clear place to begin and introduces the principles we use throughout the practices.

You can also choose shorter or gentler sessions from the library and build up gradually as your confidence grows.

If you join SHINE Plus, your personal welcome call gives us a chance to talk about where you are starting from and any questions you have before you begin.

What if I change my mind and want to cancel?

You can cancel your SHINE membership at any time. Your membership will then end at the end of your current payment period — monthly or yearly, depending on the option you chose.

When do the SHINE Plus live classes take place? What if I can’t make them?

The live Yoga for Scoliosis class takes place on Wednesdays from 2–3pm UK time, and the scoliosis-friendly Pilates class takes place on Sundays from 6–6.45pm UK time during term time.

If you can’t attend live, every class is recorded and available inside SHINE Plus for 8 weeks, so you can practise at a time that works for you.

You don’t need to attend the live classes every week to benefit from SHINE Plus. Many members use a mixture of live classes and recordings, and some primarily use the recordings because of work, family commitments or time-zone differences.

I don’t know my scoliosis curve pattern. Does this matter?

No. You don’t need to know your exact curve pattern before you join SHINE.

There are plenty of practices that are suitable for all curve patterns, including the live yoga and Pilates classes, and the Foundations programme will help you understand the principles we use throughout SHINE.

If you do know your curve pattern, you can also explore the curve-specific practices and learn how your individual pattern may influence the way you move.

If you haven’t had a formal diagnosis or aren’t sure what your curve pattern is, I don’t recommend trying to work it out from your posture alone.

I have pain or discomfort. Is SHINE suitable for me?

Many SHINE members experience some degree of stiffness, achiness or discomfort, and you’ll find gentler practices as well as options and adaptations throughout the membership.

However, SHINE is a group yoga and Pilates membership rather than personalised rehabilitation or medical care.

If you are experiencing significant, new or unexplained pain, or have other health conditions that affect how you exercise, please speak to an appropriate healthcare professional before starting.

If you need more individual help adapting movement to your particular body, my 1:1 sessions are the better option.

I’m looking for help for my teenager. Is SHINE suitable?

SHINE is designed for adults living with scoliosis.

If you are looking for support for a child or teenager, please feel free to get in touch and I can point you towards appropriate resources.

Can I pay monthly or yearly?

Yes. Both SHINE Lite and SHINE Plus are available as either monthly or yearly memberships.

Choose whichever payment option works best for you.
