Workshop Description

Many people with scoliosis feel unsure about what movements are truly safe — especially when it comes to twisting, side bending, or arching the back. You might have heard mixed messages or felt discomfort trying these in class.

The truth is, these movements can be safe — and even beneficial — when done with awareness, support, and an understanding of your own scoliosis pattern.

In this workshop, we’ll take the fear and confusion out of these movements and help you move with greater confidence and ease.

In this workshop we will answer the questions:

  • Are twists, side bends, and backbends safe with scoliosis?
  • How do these movements affect different scoliosis patterns (S-curve vs. C-curve)?
  • What movements help you find length and balance — and which can increase strain?
  • How can breath and gentle core stability support the spine?
  • What should I focus on in my yoga or Pilates practice to stay safe?

We will also:

  • Explore the anatomy of twisting, side bending, and backbending in scoliosis
  • Learn practical tips to adapt common poses and exercises for your unique curve
  • Practice a 30-minute scoliosis-friendly movement session to build confidence and awareness
  • Discuss how to tell the difference between “good effort” and “pushing too far”
  • Have time for questions and discussion so you can apply what you learn straight away

You will need:

  • A mat and a chair
  • A yoga block or cushion
  • A strap or resistance band

(No prior experience required — this workshop is suitable for all levels.)

About Christine

Christine is a yoga and Pilates teacher who specialises in working with people with scoliosis. Originally from Germany and now based in the UK, she has over a decade of experience helping students move safely and confidently through tailored yoga and Pilates practice.

Her approach blends education, compassion, and practical movement — helping people understand their unique curve and feel supported in their own bodies. Through her SHINE membership and workshops, Christine makes scoliosis-friendly movement accessible and empowering for everyone.

Please note this workshop is included for SHINE members, our monthly Yoga for Scoliosis membership. If you would like to attend you are welcome to join the membership for a month and enjoy all it's benefits. After that you can either stay on or cancel if you prefer. The workshop is also available for non-members at £70. 

What is SHINE?

  • 30-60min scoliosis safe practice videos - there is a full library in the membership section with complete practice videos focusing on different aspects or body parts to help you get the practice that you need in the moment.  
  • Curve specific videos - I'm always trying to create videos that will be as relevant as possible. The library is full of videos that members have requested specifically for their curve pattern.
  • Guided meditation and relaxation - scoliosis is more than a physical condition. Meditation and relaxation practices will help you feel more relaxed and balanced both physically and mentally.  
  • Private Facebook group exclusive to SHINE members - connection and community is important with scoliosis! The Facebook group gives you the opportunity to connect with others that are going through the same thing and ask all your questions. 
  • Access to live expert webinars and guest trainings - we've got some fabulous guest workshops from Schroth experts to strength training and Restorative Yoga!

About Me

I had been suffering from back ache since I was a teenager. Due to my left lumbar scoliosis I spent a lot of time (and money) seeing physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors. I was hoping that they would "fix" me! I found those therapies to be helpful but nothing created a lasting effect. 

I gravitated to yoga nearly 20 years ago and made it my mission to pass on the benefits of yoga and what I have learned about scoliosis to others going through the same thing.

I'm a certified Yoga for Scoliosis teacher (studying with teachers such as Elise Miller Browning and Judith Hanson Lasater) and APPI Pilates instructor.  I have taught hundreds of students from all over the world and of all ages that suffer from scoliosis.
