The power of networking and saying “Yes!”

Our blogging base for the day was this fabulous bus in the middle of Kingston’s Market Square!

We started the day at 10am with a little blogging competition for which we had to write a 300-500 word blog post on a given topic. The main challenge being that we had to write it on the busy bus while people came in to chat to us!

After that we had to complete a long list of blogging tasks like tweeting about a small business owner we had met, ask different partners about their products, wear the bus conductors hat and post a picture on Instagram and so on…

My fabulous co-bloggers were the lovely Maria from Suburban Mum and Jacinta from Jacintaz3, who won the overall competition!

The blog post that I managed to write and publish was Parentpreneurs – Why more parents are turning to working for themselves which is a topic that I’ve got lots to say about so there might be some follow up posts!

The main reason that I loved the event wasn’t only my amazing goodie bag and the cakes from Sprinkled Magic (even though they were delicious) but it was meeting all those fabulous men and women who are in a similar situation like me! Small business owners who are setting up and running their businesses while looking after their families.

Anyone who works for themselves knows that this can be lonely at times. Networking is a very important part of being self-employed. Networking is marketing, it’s being visible, making contacts with people who can support you, helping each-other and exchanging ideas!

It’s about creating opportunities and as MNC Director, Nicky Chisholm, put it it’s about saying “Yes!” to things. Get out there, talk about your business, give people a chance to get to know you and what you do. Don’t see it as self-promotion (most of us are not comfortable with this) but a chance to learn about other businesses and support each-other.

Saying “Yes!” to this event meant that I learned a lot, got some great social media tips from Claire from Clarita Co Media, did a Radio Interview with Tino from Business Radio and had a go at vlogging thanks to Mi from The Vlog Academy!

All in all a great day with even a little headstand thrown in at the end #yogaeverywhere 🙂
