New Years Resolutions, Vision Boards and Goal Setting

It’s also a great time to set goals and resolutions for the next year! Becoming a yoga teacher is my top goal for 2015 and healthy eating, drinking more water and daily yoga are definitely also on the list! I’ve decided that I will be much more serious about my resolutions this year so that they are not already forgotten about by the 20th January so here are a few tools I’ve discovered to help with this…

I very much believe in the power of vision boards, putting goals in writing to achieve them and most importantly reviewing them on a regular basis.

For anyone who doesn’t know what a vision board is, it’s basically a wish list of anything you would like to have and or like to happen. You can cut pictures out from magazines and stick them on a big piece of paper or another good way of doing it is on Pinterest where you can simply pin your favourite things. Pretty much everything I’ve put on a vision board in the past has come true… not straight away of course and I’m not saying you will get a million pounds/dollars/euros next month if you put it on your vision board but it helps to focus your energy towards a certain goal. The key for choosing things is that are ambitious but achievable and realistic to yourself!

Another great tool I’ve discovered thanks to my yoga teacher is the Daily Greatness Yoga Journal. There is also a more general version which is not yoga specific for anyone who maybe wants to focus on general plans. It’s a much more detailed way of setting your goals and reviewing them on a weekly basis. There is a general section where you can fill in what you would like to have/become, how you can make it happen and when you can make it happen. I also love the section about how to create your own purpose and mission statements. It’s good to reflect on these things sometimes to see if you’re actually doing what will get you to your overall goal.

The rest of the book is kind of a mixture of a diary and a calendar with a weekly and a 90 day review. I take a few minutes every day to answer the questions which slightly change on a daily basis. There are questions like what did I learn today, what am I grateful for, today I want to focus on being … and …, what did I enjoy about my yoga practice today. Some questions I find a bit difficult to answer (e.g. what am I not seeing?) but at least they get you to think!!

I got mine from Yogamatters. It’s not cheap but I would definitely recommend it for anyone who is serious about their yoga practice and setting goals!

I’m certainly continuing mine (I started two months ago) and can’t wait to take a bit of time to create my new vision board!

Are you setting any goals for the new year? Have you ever created a vision board? What is your main goal for this month?

  1. Lovely blog post. I’ve been keeping a diary and cutting out inspirational articles for my mood boards since about 1982! It’s a part of my life that I absolutely love. Now in my 50s I’m setting out as a blogger. Good luck with your blog too!
