As a newly qualified kids yoga teacher I’m currently spending a lot of time looking for fun yoga songs and rhymes, toys and props that I can use for my classes and of course kids yoga mats!
Last weekend I went to the Om Yoga Show at Alexandra Palace and I came back with lots of goodies which of course my 3-year old wanted to try out straight away! She absolutely loves her new Ommie yoga book and her kids yoga mat from The Yoga Shop UK!
Here she is, looking very pleased when I brought home this purple Grip Kids mat.
So as it was half-term last week I brought my kids along to the “Little Yogaberries” class that I’m teaching for 2-4 year olds so Maya could try out her new mat!
Bringing your own kids to a class that you teach is quite a gamble (as I’ve now realised) but I was kind of hoping that they would be really well behaved and help me demonstrate the poses! It didn’t all go according to plan of course but apart from little Leo not wanting to share the toys or his mummy with anyone else it went really well and we had lots of fun!
The class we did was a Halloween themed class and we pretended to be witches flying on our brooms, hanging upside down like bats, did magic tricks, we were drinking magic potions and scared the scarecrows!

It was a great opportunity as we could start subjecting the mat to tough testing during the kids class! Little Leo, our Head of Extreme Testing, did a really good job of making sure that this mat is fit for use by any energetic child! He is extremely good at doing downward dogs as you can see and an expert at running, jumping and throwing and I’m pleased to say that the mat survived all of this!
Grip Kids mats are 30cm shorter than standard adult yoga mats so perfect for any kids until the age of 10 (depending on their size of course!) They contain no nasty chemicals and come in red. blue, green and purple. They are extra thick and durable and more grip than a standard adult mat to make sure the kids don’t slip or hurt themselves.
The mat rolls out really nicely and if you ever fought with a yoga mat that wants to constantly curl up on the sides you know how annoying this can be! Even though this one was brand new it rolled out perfectly flat on the floor unlike many other mats which I have been using for months now so that’s a big plus for me.

The mats are available for £18 online at The Yoga Shop UK where you can also get adult sized mats (£22) of the same brand!
