As Baby Leo just moved on to cows milk a few months ago and both my kids generally love milk we were very excited to go to the Arla Big Milk launch event at Maggie & Rose last week!
While the kids were fully entertained with face painting, food and more, we learned about Big Milk which is a new product (milk!) available at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Asda for a retail price for £2.25 for 2 litres (4 pints).
What is different about Big Milk?
£2.25 is obviously a lot more expensive than the usual cows milk that most of us probably buy, so what is so different about Big Milk?
It’s basically got the recommended vitamins that we should give our kids as supplements between the ages of 1 and 5 already added in it! This means our little ones are getting all the Vitamins A, D, Iron and Calcium they need which is great! There is no need for buying expensive formula or vitamin supplements (which, I have to be honest, I always forget to give them…)
Little Leo is a big milk drinker and I have been advised by the health visitor to reduce his milk intake (they recommend 300ml which includes milk in food and sauces) as they are concerned he wouldn’t get enough iron from other food sources otherwise. As Big Milk has iron already added into it I don’t have to worry about that!
We certainly enjoyed our afternoon, chatting to nutritionist Charlotte Stirling-Reed, who gave us some great smoothie recipe ideas. Those who follow my blog will know that I love to try out new smoothies to get some good stuff into my kids so I really enjoyed that part!
Maya’s favourite recipe was the fruity milk ice cream which was a mixture of the following:
– yoghurt
– a little bit of milk
– a few raisins
– tinned peaches
– a bit of tangerine
all mixed together and served in an ice cream cone! Such a great idea and slightly frozen this is the perfect snack for the summer! We will definitely be trying that at home soon.

I couldn’t refrain from commenting. Perfectly written!
