I've been intrigued by Dr Loren Fishman's study about yoga poses that can correct scoliosis for a while. I knew that he was suggesting one pose in particular - side plank. I knew he was suggesting to practice the pose one sided on the convex side of the curve and had seen really good results!
But what about s curves? What if there is a curve on both sides? For a long time I practiced the pose on both sides for that reason and suggested the same for my clients.
I do get a lot of questions about this topic in my Facebook Group which is why I decided this year to finally clarify the confusion and what better way than to talk to Dr Loren Fishman himself! So that's what I did - you can watch the full interview here.
Here are the 3 poses that he suggests for s curve scoliosis:
1. Side plank to correct the lumbar curve - on the left for left lumbar curve
2. Half moon pose done on the convex side of the thoracic curve
3. "Flying Plank" done on the convex side of the thoracic curve

Where did you get your tank top? I have S curve and sometimes it gets confusing what side to work on . Look down and know!
It’s so useful! I got it printed by a lady in America. But looking to get some more as it’s really useful! Feel free to drop me an email info@yogaberry.net with your curve pattern and I’ll see if I can get it
i am practice yoga from 3 years its very benefits and really helpful for me and thanks for sharing nice post.
Hi! I have an S curve, but I can’t find my X-rays, and I don’t remember if my spine looks like an S or a backwards S. My left waist is significantly straighter than my right waist. Is my left side the convex side of my lumbar curve? Thanks!
sounds like it but only the Adams Forward Bend test or an x-ray would tell you what is going on. Check out my YouTube channel! There is a video on how to check your spine.
Hi i have the same. My left side is straighter then my right and by the way my spine feels, i have a left lumbar curve and a right thoracic. That means for the 3 exercises i would go on my left side for the side plank (lumbar) and my right side for the floating side plank (thoracic). I really hope this helps.
Thank you for sharing these poses. I have a left lumbar and right thoracic and have tried these poses but I am finding my wrists hurt. Can I use my elbows for the side plank and floating plank or will this reduce the effectiveness of the pose?
yes absolutely you can!
