About Me

I had been suffering from back ache since I was a teenager. Due to my left lumbar scoliosis I spent a lot of time (and money) seeing physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors. I was hoping that they would "fix" me! I found those therapies to be helpful but nothing created a lasting effect. 

I gravitated to yoga 20 years ago and made it my mission to pass on the benefits of yoga to others going through the same thing. I'm a certified Yoga for Scoliosis teacher (studying with teachers such as Elise Miller Browning and Judith Hanson Lasater) and APPI Pilates teacher, studying with top Physiotherapists and Schroth Therapists.  I have taught students from all over the world and of all ages that suffer from scoliosis.

FAQ

I have a fused spine, is this membership for me?

Yes, the membership is designed for those with or without spinal fusion. The practice principles are generally the same for scoliosis with or without fusion as we don't do a lot of twisting and bending. I would encourage you to listen to your body, respect the fusion and if you are in doubt reach out to me directly or book a members only 1:1 session  

I'm a complete beginner, can I still join? 

Yes, absolutely! If you are completely new to Pilates we have a 6 week beginners course in the membership. The zoom yoga sessions are open level classes and you are always encouraged to work at your own pace, listening to your body but most importantly enjoy your practice! 

What if I change my mind and want to cancel? 

I am sure you will love the membership but I understand of course that sometimes life gets in the way and there are reasons why you might have to cancel. We make it very easy to cancel via a click of a button to cancel at the end of your membership term (monthly or yearly depending on what you signed up for)

When do the live classes take place? What if I can't make it? 

The live Yoga for Scoliosis class takes place on Wednesdays 2-3pm (London) and the Pilates class takes place on Sundays 6-6.45pm (London). They are recorded and you will find the recordings of the last 4 weeks in the membership area.

I don't know my curve pattern, does this matter?

Generally it's best to know your curve pattern because then you can really start to tailor your practice. If you have not had an x-ray or a formal diagnosis you can do the practices that are for all curves, including the live Yoga and Pilates classes

I suffer from pain, is this practice for me?

The practices in this membership are generally safe for scoliosis, however, scoliosis often comes with a lot of other health conditions and of course we are all individuals! If you need more personalised advice you can book a 1:1 session at a special members only price to help and guide you with any specific problems you might experience

I'm looking for help for my teenager, is this suitable?

SHINE is designed for adults living with scoliosis. If you are looking for support for a teenager, please feel free to reach out so I can guide you toward appropriate resources.
